Stuttur útdráttur:  Alien or non-native species are a pardox. In some cases, alien species - particularly plants - provide useful ecological and economic functions and are valued by humans. In other cases, alien species are viewed as noxious pests, altering the structure and function of natural ecosystems and incurring economic costs through lost revenues and/or control expenses. This seminar considers the valuation of alien species, their ecological and economic impact, and the tempo and scope of biological invasions in a globalizing world economy.
