Conference has begun

Growth conditions on the program today

  • Bert Cregg from the Michigan State University giving a presentation on Coning and shoot growth response of Fraser fir trees to paclobutrazol application.

This morning, Gary Chastagner, Chairman of IUFRO Christmas tree working group, opened the 13th Christmas Tree Research and Extension Conference which is now held in Iceland for the first time.

After the conference opening Dr. Edda S. Oddsdóttir, research director of the Icelandic Forest Service, gave a presentation on forest research activity in Iceland and the state of forests and forestry in the country.

The first session of the Conference is on Growth conditions with presentations from Bert Cregg, Robert Thomas, Ulrika Egertsdotter, Jill O'Donnell, Rune Vesterager Asmussen and Else Möller. Later today will be a field tour around the Eyjafjörður area vith a visit to a Christmas tree grower, a recreational forest and a plant nursery.
